Creative Movement Classes

Creative Movement 1 (Pre-School)

An introductory class for students in preschool, with an emphasis on fun. Movement skills are developed utilizing creative dance through problem solving. Dancers discover ways to move in space, using time and shape with games, props, stories, music under guided instruction. They explore all locomotor movements working as individuals and within the group.

Creative Movement 2 (Kindergarten)

Dancers MUST be in Kindergarten and have turned 5 years old by September 1st to be in this class.  A second class with emphasis on fun. Including activities similar in the Creative first year class, but expanding students ballet terminology to prepare them for understanding ballet technique. Children develop skills in moving thru space, using time and shape with games, props and music under guided instruction. They explore all the locomotor movements and participate in our annual performance in May for the first year. 

Ballet Classes

Pre Ballet (1st Grade)

This fun and engaging class introduces young dancers to the fundamentals of ballet in a supportive and creative environment. Students will explore basic ballet steps, musicality, coordination, and classroom etiquette while developing strength, flexibility, and confidence. Through imaginative movement and age-appropriate technique, dancers build a strong foundation for future ballet training.

Ballet 1 (2nd Grade)

Ballet 1 builds on the foundations established in Pre-Ballet, introducing more structured barre and center work. Dancers will learn proper ballet terminology, alignment, and technique while continuing to develop musicality, coordination, and strength. This class encourages focus, discipline, and a love of movement in a nurturing and age-appropriate setting.

Ballet 2 (3rd Grade)

Ballet 2 continues to develop classical ballet technique with increased attention to detail, alignment, and strength. Dancers will refine their barre and center work, expand their ballet vocabulary, and begin to learn more complex movement patterns and combinations. Emphasis is placed on musicality, artistry, and classroom discipline, preparing students for more rigorous training in the next levels.

Ballet 3A (4th Grade)

Ballet 3 is a third-level ballet class where dancers typically study for 2-3 years to build the strength, technique, and understanding needed for more advanced training. This class is designed for students 1st year in Ballet 3. 4th grade students take this class once per week. Dancers will deepen their work at the barre and in the center, focusing on alignment, coordination, and artistry.

Ballet 3B/4 (5th-7th Grade)

Ballet 3 is a third-level ballet class where dancers typically study for 2-3 years to build the strength, technique, and understanding needed for more advanced training. Dancers will deepen their work at the barre and in the center, focusing on alignment, coordination, and artistry. . Dancers in 5th–7th grade are required to attend two classes per week, with one class taken in Ballet 4 to support continued growth and progression.

Intermediate 1/2 Ballet (5th-8th Grade)

Intermediate 1/2 Ballet is a pivotal level where dancers begin to be evaluated for readiness to begin pointe work. Most students are in 6th grade or older and enter this level with at least three years of prior ballet training. Classes focus on refining technique, building strength and control, and developing artistry and performance quality. Starting this year, all dancers at this level must commit to training three times per week to support the physical and technical demands of pre-pointe and pointe preparation.

Intermediate 3/4 Ballet (6th-12th Grade)

Intermediate 3/4 Ballet is an advanced training level for dedicated dancers continuing to build the strength, technique, and artistry needed for pointe work and more complex choreography. Dancers at this level train three times per week and also participate in a Pilates Conditioning class to support core strength, alignment, and injury prevention. This level emphasizes precision, stamina, and musical expression, preparing students for pre-professional level work.

Advanced Ballet (9th-12th Grade)

Advanced Ballet / Company is the highest level of training, designed for committed dancers who demonstrate strong technical ability, artistry, and leadership. Placement in Company class is by Director approval only. Dancers take ballet three times per week, attend Pilates Conditioning, and are expected to maintain a high level of commitment both in and out of the studio. Company dancers participate in an annual educational performance tour of Blaine County Schools, attend out-of-town master classes and performances, engage in community service projects, and are eligible for induction into the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA). Continued summer study is required through Footlight summer workshops and/or other intensive training programs.

Pointe Classes

Pointe Classes are Invitation Only

Intro to Pointe

Intro to Pointe is the first level of pointe work for dancers who have been evaluated and approved for pointe training. This class introduces students to the fundamentals of dancing en pointe in a safe and supportive environment. Dancers who are not yet en pointe but are on the track to earn their shoes may take this class with director approval. Dancers will learn how to properly prepare their shoes, strengthen their feet and ankles, and execute basic pointe exercises at the barre. Focus is placed on correct alignment, control, and injury prevention. Dancers must be concurrently enrolled in Intermediate 1/2 Ballet and are expected to attend class regularly to ensure continued progress and safety. Invitation Only.

Intermediate Pointe

Intermediate Pointe is designed for dancers who have mastered the fundamentals of pointe work and are ready to advance their technique and artistry en pointe. This class focuses on building strength, precision, and endurance through more complex barre and center exercises, combinations, and choreography. Emphasis is placed on clean footwork, balance, and fluidity, while maintaining proper alignment and injury prevention. Dancers must be enrolled in the appropriate Intermediate Ballet level and demonstrate consistent commitment and progress in their training.

Advanced Pointe

Advanced Pointe is for experienced dancers who have developed strong technique, control, and artistry on pointe. This class challenges dancers with complex combinations, extended center work, and performance-quality choreography that demands strength, precision, and endurance. Emphasis is placed on advanced footwork, balance, and expressive movement while maintaining proper alignment and injury prevention. Enrollment requires concurrent participation in Advanced Ballet or Company class, as well as director approval.

Jazz Classes

Jazz 1

This high-energy class is perfect for dancers who are new to jazz or looking to build their confidence in a fun, upbeat environment. Students will learn the fundamentals of jazz technique, including kicks, turns, isolations, and across-the-floor combinations, all set to exciting music. The class focuses on building strength, flexibility, coordination, and musicality while encouraging personal style and expression. As we relaunch our jazz program, this is a great time to jump in—no experience needed, just a willingness to dance and have fun!

Teen Jazz

Teen Jazz is a fast-paced, high-energy class designed for intermediate to advanced dancers who want to strengthen their jazz technique and performance skills. As the highest level of jazz offered this year, this class focuses on refining turns, jumps, strength, flexibility, and musicality through challenging combinations and across-the-floor work. Dancers will explore a range of jazz styles while building the precision and expression needed for advanced choreography. Teen Jazz is ideal for motivated students looking to catch up or advance quickly, with the goal of preparing for future placement in Advanced/Company Jazz.

Modern Classes

Modern 1 (5th-7th grade)

Modern 1 introduces dancers to a contemporary dance technique shaped by the unique style of the teacher or choreographer. Rooted in the principles of ballet alignment, this class expands movement vocabulary to include floor work, fall and recovery, contract and release, and the dynamic use of gravity. Emphasizing a sense of expansive space, dancers explore both technical skills and creative expression. Students develop their individual movement voice through improvisation exercises performed solo and in groups, fostering artistry, awareness, and connection.

Intermediate Modern (8th-12th grade)

Intermediate Modern is designed for dancers in grades 8–12 who are ready to advance their contemporary technique and performance skills with increased physicality and strength. This class deepens the exploration of modern dance principles such as alignment, floor work, fall and recovery, and dynamic use of gravity, incorporating more challenging movement combinations that demand endurance and control. Conditioning and strength-building exercises are integrated to enhance flexibility, core stability, and overall athleticism. Dancers focus on refining technical precision, expressive artistry, and improvisational skills, while developing heightened musicality and spatial awareness. This level prepares students for advanced modern and contemporary dance studies with a strong, conditioned body and creative versatility.

Advanced Modern (9th-12th grade)

Advanced Modern / Company is an elite class reserved for dancers by Director approval only. Designed for highly committed students, dancers must take a minimum of 2 classes per week alongside Pilates conditioning to build strength, flexibility, and artistic precision. This class emphasizes advanced technical skills, complex choreography, and expressive performance quality. Company dancers participate in an annual educational tour of Blaine County Schools, attend out-of-town master classes and performances, engage in community service, and are eligible for the National Honor Society of Dance Arts (NHSDA). Continued growth is supported through required summer study at Footlight workshops and/or additional out-of-town intensives.

Modern 2 (6th-9th grade)

Modern 2 builds on the foundational techniques introduced in Modern 1, challenging dancers to deepen their technical skills and artistic expression. This class continues to explore the principles of alignment, floor work, fall and recovery, and dynamic use of gravity, while introducing more complex movement sequences and refined phrasing. Dancers expand their improvisational skills, exploring movement quality, spatial awareness, and emotional connection both individually and within ensemble work. Modern 2 encourages greater confidence and maturity in movement, preparing dancers for advanced contemporary training. Invitation only. 

Tap Classes

Tap 1 (2nd-5th grade)

Tap 1 is a fun, energetic class designed for young dancers ages 7 to 11 who are new to tap dancing. Students will learn basic tap steps, rhythms, and timing while developing coordination and musicality. This class emphasizes listening skills, footwork fundamentals, and building confidence through movement. Dancers will enjoy exploring tap dance in a supportive, creative environment that encourages expression and a love of rhythm.

Intermediate Tap (6th-12th grade)

Intermediate Tap is designed for dancers in grades 6–12 who have a solid foundation in tap technique and are ready for more intricate rhythms and choreography. This class challenges dancers with increased tempo, syncopation, and complex footwork while continuing to develop clarity of sound and strong musicality. Dancers will explore a variety of tap styles, learn to pick up choreography quickly, and build confidence through performance-based combinations. Emphasis is placed on precision, rhythmic improvisation, and expressive, dynamic movement.

Tap 2/3 (5th-10th grade)

Tap 2/3 is a progressive tap class for dancers with prior tap experience who are ready to expand their vocabulary, precision, and musicality. This level builds on the fundamentals introduced in Tap 1, introducing more complex rhythms, combinations, and footwork patterns. Dancers will focus on clarity of sound, timing, and dynamics, while developing the ability to learn and perform longer rhythmic phrases. Emphasis is placed on strong technique, creativity, and confidence in both individual and group work.

Advanced Tap (9th-12th grade)

Advanced Tap / Company is the highest level of tap training and is available by Director approval only. This class is for dedicated dancers who demonstrate strong technical skill, musicality, and performance ability. Dancers are required to take tap classes twice per week and participate in Pilates conditioning to support strength, stamina, and injury prevention. Company members perform in an annual educational school tour across Blaine County, attend out-of-town master classes and performances, engage in community service, and are eligible for induction into the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA). To support continued growth, dancers are required to further their training during the summer through Footlight workshops and/or other intensive programs.

Hip Hop Classes

Kids Hip Hop (3rd-4th Grade)

Kids Hip Hop is a high-energy class that introduces dancers to the fundamentals of hip hop. Set to age-appropriate music, dancers will learn basic grooves, footwork, and rhythm while building coordination, confidence, and personal style. This upbeat class encourages creativity and expression in a supportive environment where kids can move, sweat, and have a blast! No prior experience needed—just bring your energy and love of dance!

Teen Hip Hop 1

Teen Hip Hop 1 is a  class for dancers in 6th and 7th grade, designed to build a strong foundation in hip hop movement. Dancers will train in core styles such as old school grooves, popping, locking, and basic breaking, while developing musicality, body control, and precision. Class includes warm-ups that emphasize strength and coordination and combinations that teach choreography retention and performance quality. This level lays the groundwork for more advanced hip hop training by focusing on clean execution and understanding of foundational street dance vocabulary.

Teen Hip Hop 2

Teen Hip Hop 2 is an intermediate to advanced class designed for dancers in grades 8 through 12 who have a solid foundation in hip hop technique. This class emphasizes complex choreography, advanced footwork, isolations, and rhythm variations. Dancers work on precision, speed, and dynamic performance quality, while strengthening their ability to interpret music and express individuality through movement. Conditioning and technique drills are integrated to build stamina and control, preparing students for advanced hip hop and company-level training.
